second thoughts SS14 - runway event

Photographer: Neil Robertson

Designer : Arfie Lalani

During the summer, fall and winter of 2012, Arfie Lalani was going through some major changes in his life. Dealing with several inner emotions triggered from the past, for the first time, Arfie Lalani's rollercoaster lifestyle seemed to have been on an ongoing downhill. Although the thrill was amusing, his emotional state was not at its regular norm.

He began questioning the business he was engaged in, and about the fashion industry as a primary career choice. Making the right decisions was not easy and as an artist, he knew he could not give up on his talents. Giving up opportunities in the "real world" was a big challenge for Arfie Lalani, and after overcoming these challenges, he decided to portray his latest rollercoaster challenge into a work of art. He created the "Second Thoughts" Collection.

Each outfit is paired with another garment that has the same pattern pieces, yet different fabrics. Arfie Lalani wanted to depict how an opportunity can have two contrasting emotions to it, sorta like a "ying and yang" feeling. The paired outfit show the opposite energies in its patterns and fabrics, yet the shape and style remains stagnant. This portrays (to Arfie Lalani) how opportune moments can have contrasting conclusions to it, both negative and positive, yet remain together and stay natural and beautiful.
